Program History and Development

The Kinark Outdoor Center is a residential outdoor facility and program area of Kinark Child and Family Services. Its programs are routed in recreational services for the Children's Mental Health sector in Ontario. Over the years the KOC has developed well rounded intentional programming gaining depth as an employer of outdoor educators and adventure facilitators. With a uniquely diverse client group, the KOC's ability to assess and meet group needs and goals is unparalleled in their creation and facilitation of programs.

Today the outdoor center's primary service is as a specialized provider of autism respite. Every weekend and throughout the summer months the Kinark Outdoor Centre is host to children with complex neurological challenges requiring comprehensive behavioural supports. The parents of these children often struggle financially and emotionally to ensure that their children and their families get the support and opportunities that other children in their neighborhoods and schools also get.

Residential Field Trips

When you bring a school group or other similar large community group to the Kinark Outdoor Center you are also supporting the important interventions and work that we facilitate with children and their families in the summer - you're working with professionally trained staff who work with a huge variety of youth and teens.
